Suspected Assailant and His Background

A man identified as Patrick Havas, aged 38, was involved in an incident at the Canfield Fair. He allegedly charged at Amy Acton, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Ohio. Reports indicate that Havas is a registered Republican. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed he had a Taser and two pistols.

Havas is currently held at the Mahoning County Jail, facing charges of disorderly conduct and assault. The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office detailed the events, noting Havas aggressively moved through the crowd while recording on his phone. He is a licensed nurse and his last voting record was in 2024.

The confrontation happened in a tent at the fair, one of Ohio’s largest annual events. Havas allegedly pushed through the audience, knocking over individuals, including two elderly people in mobility scooters. The sheriff’s office reported that although Havas had handguns and brass knuckles, he did not brandish any weapon during the incident.

Law enforcement, comprised of Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, intervened and apprehended Havas. Sheriff Jerry Greene confirmed Havas’ actions resulted in injuries to others, but swift police response prevented further harm.

Response and Ongoing Investigations

The sheriff’s office will continue to investigate, planning to consult with the County Prosecutor before filing additional charges. A threat assessment is also being conducted by the state patrol.

Addie Bullock, from Acton’s campaign, stressed gratitude for law enforcement’s quick actions and wished recovery for the injuried individuals. Bullock stated that Acton remains steadfast against divisive actions and rhetoric.
