Grant Bowen, a standout football player at IC Catholic, is making waves with his impressive skills and dedication. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 205 pounds, this junior excels as both a tight end and outside linebacker. He has attracted significant attention with 38 Division I offers from top football programs, including Indiana, Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Alabama.
Grant values the insights he receives from college coaches but places great importance on the advice of his father, Matt Bowen, a former NFL player and current assistant coach at IC Catholic. “Having my dad around is incredibly helpful,” Grant expressed. “His expertise guides me on my football journey, something I’ve pursued since childhood.” Alongside football, Grant participated in basketball, baseball, track, and soccer, highlighting his versatile athletic background.
Matt Bowen believes Grant’s multi-sport experience enhances his performance on the field. “His diverse sports background developed his unique movement abilities,” Matt commented. “Coupled with coaching, his toughness, intelligence, and passion make him a complete player.” Grant acknowledges the lessons from his coaches at IC Catholic and cherishes the dialogue with his father post-practice, creating a strong father-son bond.
“Coaching your son is incredibly rewarding,” stated Matt Bowen. “Our successful tradition at IC Catholic, led by Coach Bill Krefft and a dedicated staff, makes coaching Grant alongside them a fulfilling experience.”
Grant Bowen’s contributions extend beyond individual achievements to the team dynamic. “Coach Bowen is well-loved by everyone,” remarked Nate Lang, a senior quarterback at IC Catholic. “Grant has a special connection with him, visible in their on-field communication.” This strong relationship benefits the team and exemplifies their unity.
In his third varsity season, Grant stands out as a two-way starter. As a sophomore, he amassed 34 catches for 731 yards, 11 touchdowns, and recorded 55 tackles. Currently, he leads the Knights with 24 catches, 486 yards, seven touchdowns, and 22 tackles. His performance has been pivotal in the Knights’ success, maintaining their spot among top-ranked teams.
“Grant’s unmatched abilities make him a standout player,” Coach Krefft praised. “His physical skills are integral, complemented by his football intelligence. He could succeed in any position with his capabilities.”
The extensive recruitment interest in Grant highlights his potential. He plans to narrow down his options after the season and aims to commit by next summer. His father, Matt, has supported him through the demanding recruitment process. “College recruiting today begins much earlier,” Matt noted. “Grant’s maturity in handling conversations with coaches and other officials is commendable.”
Grant Bowen’s ambitions extend beyond high school achievements. He aims to follow in his father’s footsteps into the NFL. “My ultimate goal is to reach the NFL,” Grant stated, though his current focus is on helping the Knights clinch another state title.
Coach Krefft values Grant’s continued growth. “He entered ready to play both ways as a sophomore. He’s like a seasoned pro.” Having Grant for another season and a half offers the Knights continuing prowess on the field. Matt Bowen cherishes every moment coaching his son. “It’s one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had, and I wish it would last longer,” he concluded.
