On June 16, 2005, the Goodyear blimp known as Stars and Stripes crashed during a severe storm. It came down at the Coral Springs industrial park located on Sample Road. Known for being a regular sight at South Florida sporting events, the blimp’s unexpected descent surprised many.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The crash site was at an industrial park on Sample Road, positioned just east of the Sawgrass Expressway. The event stood out as significant in Coral Springs, according to Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department Chief John Whalen.
