Last month, news broke that the Milwaukee Bucks traded their franchise star, Giannis Antetokounmpo, to the Miami Heat. This trade became official on Monday.
The trade involved Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis moving to Miami. In return, the Bucks received Tyler Herro, Kasparas Jakucionis, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, three first-round picks, a second-round pick, and one pick swap.
The owners of the Bucks, Wes Edens, Jimmy and Dee Haslam, and Jamie Dinan, issued a joint statement about Giannis’ departure:
“From delivering a championship to transforming our franchise, Giannis’ impact on the Milwaukee Bucks is lasting and profound. We are incredibly grateful for what has been a remarkable and historic journey together.”
“For 13 seasons, Giannis gave everything to this organization and inspired our city with his relentless drive, humility and heart. He grew into one of the greatest players in the world while becoming an integral part of the Milwaukee community.”
“His unforgettable moments on the court and his influence beyond the game defined an era of Bucks basketball and elevated our franchise on a global stage. Few players have left such a meaningful mark on a team, a city and an entire generation of fans.”
“Though this chapter has come to an end, Giannis’ legacy in Milwaukee is secure. It will always be felt here, throughout our community and in the countless people he inspired. Forever a Buck.”
Antetokounmpo joined the NBA as the Bucks’ No. 15 overall pick in 2013. He developed into one of the league’s top players. He earned 10 consecutive All-Star appearances, two MVP awards, a Defensive Player of the Year title, and a Finals MVP award in 2021.
Now with the Miami Heat, Antetokounmpo teams up with Bam Adebayo. Together, they may form one of the best defensive front courts in NBA history.
