Dustin Nolan, a former news anchor at KWQC TV6 in Iowa, recently issued a statement to clarify the intentions behind his farewell from the station, which went viral. Nolan began his statement emphatically: “Facts matter. Journalism matters. Being truthful matters.” He expressed concern that his message was being misinterpreted to fit various ideological purposes.
Nolan announced his resignation during a broadcast on KWQC TV6, indicating his decision to leave both the job and the news industry. He emphasized the importance he placed on his role, expressing gratitude to viewers who allowed him to be part of their mornings.
Today is my last day here at KWQC TV6. I have chosen to step away from the news industry. Before I say goodbye, I want to express how important this job has been to me.
Despite the widespread attention, Nolan insisted his comments were being misused to suggest a criticism of the news station or industry. He clarified that his decision was mutual with his wife, and it was made months before his announcement.
“I was not quitting on-air,” Nolan stated. He reiterated that the decision was not due to any conflict with the station and had been planned for some time. He also stressed that this choice will allow him to pursue a long-held dream.
Nolan criticized some publications for misrepresenting his departure as a stand against journalism, accusing them of not seeking his context and even using his son’s name without permission. He highlighted the essential role of dedicated local journalists in today’s world.
To publications that didn’t ask for context and crafted a nonexistent story, you’re part of the problem. Local journalists work hard every day to make a difference.
Nolan concluded with thanks to the Quad Cities community for their support. He reaffirmed his commitment to his journalistic values, stating, “Our world needs strong journalists now more than ever.”
In a comment to Fox News Digital, Nolan affirmed his message, stating it “speaks for itself.” He expressed gratitude to viewers and frustration over the misrepresentation of his words.
Nolan had been with KWQC TV6, an NBC affiliate, since 2022. He and his wife had earned a Mid-America Emmy in 2025 for Best Morning/Daytime newscast in the medium and small market category.
