Florida Woman Escapes Cross-Country Kidnapping Ordeal

A Florida woman narrowly avoided a harrowing three-week captivity after allegedly being kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend. The ordeal concluded when she jumped from a balcony in California to escape, as revealed by authorities on Thursday.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno announced Thursday that 41-year-old Floyd Stuck was arrested on multiple charges. These include kidnapping, aggravated stalking, and installing a tracking device without consent. This arrest followed the discovery of a violent, cross-country abduction that began in Southwest Florida.

Investigation Begins

The investigation launched after the victim reported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, alerting them of Stuck’s attempt to place a tracking device on her car. Deputies quickly uncovered a months-long series of frightening events.

Marceno stressed the calculated and dangerous nature of Stuck during a press conference. ‘Our detectives and deputies have worked relentlessly over the past two days to halt the coast-to-coast terrorizing of an innocent woman,’ he asserted.

The Abduction

Investigators revealed that Stuck persuaded the victim to join him for a supposed three-day trip to New York. The journey began on April 20 in Lee County. Soon after, Stuck’s behavior changed. He altered their plans, presenting the victim with documents about her family and threatening harm if she didn’t follow his commands.

What began as a brief trip turned into a three-week nightmare filled with fear and violence, according to authorities. Stuck allegedly took the victim’s phone and wallet as they traveled through various states, including Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Nevada.

The victim endured physical assault during the journey, reportedly being choked to the point of injury. As they reached San Diego, the situation intensified. Stuck allegedly bound the victim and held a knife to her throat, threatening her life.

The Escape

After three days in these dire circumstances, the victim seized an opportunity to escape while Stuck was distracted by a food delivery. She reportedly leapt from a balcony and reached out to a nearby resident, managing to contact the police and receive hospital care.

Marceno emphasized that such terrifying experiences have no place in society. He highlighted the significant community impact and the urgency to apprehend the suspect.

Despite escaping law enforcement in San Diego, Stuck continued efforts to harass the victim, even claiming he had fled to South America.

Pursuit and Arrest

In mid-May, the victim returned to Florida. Her home security footage soon captured Stuck again trying to place a tracking device on her vehicle. The authorities responded quickly, with an all-hands-on-deck approach.

Law enforcement from multiple agencies pursued Stuck after he evaded a traffic stop. This chase spanned from Bonita Springs to neighboring Collier County, resulting in his eventual capture following a vehicle pursuit and foot chase.

Marceno described Stuck as exceptionally dangerous, one of the toughest suspects encountered by the agency. The sheriff underscored the dangerous criminal past Stuck possessed, involving charges like armed robbery and fraud.

Stuck was free on bond for another fraud case at the time of his arrest. The investigation is ongoing, with potential for further charges across multiple states.

The arrest of Stuck, according to Marceno, significantly reinforces public safety by removing a potential threat from the streets.
