FBI Foils Major Terrorist Plot in Albany

The FBI announced it had stopped a potential terrorist attack in Albany, New York. Jessica Bowie, 35, faces charges of attempting to support foreign terrorist groups. If found guilty, her sentence could reach 20 years with a $250,000 fine.

Court documents reveal Bowie’s plot from mid-July to mid-August involved using explosives against the New York State Capitol. The FBI employed undercover tactics to apprehend her. First Assistant U.S. Attorney John Sarcone expressed concern over the plot, stressing its attack on democracy.

Bowie allegedly became radicalized online, spreading violent rhetoric against Americans. She surveilled the capitol five times, as security footage showed, and communicated with an FBI source masquerading as an ISIS infiltrator. Her messages expressed intent to destroy the building and harm senators, aiming to impact the American system.

An affidavit includes an image of Bowie purchasing materials for a makeshift bomb. FBI agents gave her $200 for these supplies. Bowie’s plan entailed smuggling a device into the capitol in a DoorDash bag, aspiring to kill at least 100 people. She reportedly dismissed smaller attacks, seeking a larger impact.

Bowie considered further attacks but deemed the White House too challenging. She reiterated her focus on targeting senators. Her loyalty to ISIS surfaced in an allegiance oath and her online presence, praising events like September 11.

FBI sources detailed Bowie seeking a gun for protection during the operation. After buying a firearm for $150, and donating $200 to a bombmaker, agents arrested her with weapons and bomb components in her possession.

Tremaroli, an FBI agent, recounted Bowie’s transformation from a patriotic child to someone who displayed stickers of the 9/11 towers. Upon arrest, Bowie acknowledged the gravity of her actions, expressing resignation toward jail time.

Bowie’s post-attack plan involved fleeing the country, with eventual intentions to target Times Square during New Year’s Eve. Governor Kathy Hochul expressed gratitude for the FBI and state police efforts, emphasizing recent security enhancements.

FBI Director Kash Patel highlighted this as the latest thwarting of over 400 plots in 2026 alone. He issued a stern warning to those threatening Americans: the authorities will prevail.
