Ella Langley’s song “Choosin’ Texas” has made Billboard Hot 100 history. The song reached its 23rd week at No. 1, surpassing Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” for the longest reign at the chart’s top position. Langley expressed her surprise and gratitude on Instagram, thanking fans for their support and acknowledging the song’s impact on her life and the lives of its writers.
Langley conveyed her disbelief and excitement in a heartfelt message, emphasizing how this achievement is transforming her career. She shared her decision to celebrate that night and expressed her appreciation for her fans’ enduring love for the song.
Reflecting on an earlier interview with Billboard from March, Langley admitted that the success of “Choosin’ Texas” had exceeded her expectations. Originally, she knew it would be a lead single, yet its historic success was beyond her imagination. The song also dominated Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, staying No. 1 for 41 weeks.
The song’s creation traces back to a songwriting retreat with Miranda Lambert and other writers. Langley recounted how a story about a kangaroo inspired the song’s lyrics. Lambert’s tale of being pulled over with a kangaroo in her car brought the idea to life. In just 45 minutes, the group wrote “Choosin’ Texas,” fueled by the phrase “Well, she’s from Texas, I can tell.”
Lambert’s contributions continued, as she helped executive produce Langley’s next record. Langley values Lambert’s guidance, describing her as a mentor in her music career.
Langley has continued to perform across the country, sharing her journey and success with fans. Recent tour stops included Oxford, Mississippi; Athens, Georgia; and Jacksonville, Florida. Langley posted photos of her performances and behind-the-scenes moments, further connecting with her audience.
The ongoing success of “Choosin’ Texas” reaffirms Langley’s presence in the music industry, and fans eagerly anticipate what comes next in her evolving career.
