Elgin Achieves High State Ranking

U.S. News & World Report has recognized Elgin as the sixth best place to live in Illinois. The evaluation criteria included value, quality of life, desirability, and job market strength. Elgin’s population is approximately 116,000, with a median home price of about $280,000 and median rent of $1,200 per month. The median annual household income exceeds $94,000. The job market mirrors that of similar-sized cities.

Registration Open for Kids United Program

The Elgin Police Department has opened registration for the Kids United program, running from June 22 to August 11 at Abbott Middle School, 949 Van St., Elgin. This free program offers activities like art, sports, cooking, swimming, and life skills lessons, according to the city’s website. Meals will be provided.

The drop-in sessions welcome residents and students from Elgin Township and School District U-46. Huffman Tennis Courts Closed for Renovations

Huffman Park’s tennis courts, located at 811 Tartans Drive, West Dundee, are closed due to unsafe surfaces. The Dundee Township Park District expects repairs to finish by fall, including converting some areas into pickleball courts. Courts remain open at Grafelman Park, Lions Park, and Sleepy Hollow Park, with pickleball lines available at Grafelman and Lions.

Free Live Music Events in St. Charles

STC Live! offers free music performances twice weekly, starting June 3, at First Street Plaza and various downtown venues. Over 35 acts are scheduled through September 28, with performances at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. Initial performances include Matt Keen at The Office Dining & Spirits and Leslie Hunt at First Street Plaza.

Batavia Celebrates Flag Day on June 14

Batavia will commemorate Flag Day, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, on Sunday, June 14. Events begin at 1 p.m. at the Batavia City Council chambers, featuring historic flags and a display ranging from the Revolutionary War period onward. Following this, the American flag will be raised at the Riverwalk’s Flag Day Monument, accompanied by a rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner.
