Dramatic Rescue of Baby from Flooded Car in Beeville, Texas

Body camera footage captured a dramatic rescue on Saturday when a baby was trapped in a vehicle surrounded by rising floodwaters in Beeville, Texas. The incident took place about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio, as heavy storms caused roads to become dangerously flooded. The sudden downpour overwhelmed a low-water crossing as a car attempted to pass through.

The Beeville Police Department reported that officers and firefighters responded when a vehicle drove into a flooded creek crossing and began to be pushed by the water. Fast-moving rain left no opportunity for crews to place barricades before the car entered the crossing.

“Recently, officers and firefighters responded after a vehicle drove into a flooded creek crossing and began getting pushed by the rushing water,” Beeville Police Department shared in a Facebook post.

Footage showed the white sedan being swept by the floodwaters. The water rose quickly, reaching the top of the car’s wheels. An officer at the scene reported the vehicle was being pushed toward a creek.

A panic-stricken driver alerted an officer that a baby was inside the car. The officer ran through the floodwaters, opened the vehicle’s door, and retrieved the infant inside a carriage. The baby was quickly carried to safety, shielded from the rain with a jacket by another responder.

The child was safely saved along with the driver from the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Beeville police used the incident to highlight the dangers of floodwaters, cautioning that a seemingly passable roadway can become dangerous very quickly. They stressed that moving water can push vehicles off the road unexpectedly.

“If barricades are up around a roadway or crossing, please do not drive around them. They are there for a reason. Going around barricades not only puts lives at risk, but it is also a criminal offense,” the department warned.

The police advised drivers to exercise caution during heavy rain by slowing down and avoiding flooded areas. They emphasized that no errand or destination is worth risking personal safety.
