DHS Engages with Trade Groups Over Immigration Concerns

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), now led by Secretary Markwayne Mullin, has taken a new approach to interacting with trade groups. Officials have held their initial meeting with these organizations, focusing on concerns about workforce shortages due to the president’s ongoing deportation campaign.

Previously, under the leadership of former Secretary Kristi L. Noem, these concerns were not prioritized. Business groups had expressed worry about losing employees as aggressive immigration enforcement continued.

The issue of immigration enforcement remains highly contentious. Recently, passions flared in Houston after Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed during an immigration stop. His death prompted local protests, highlighting the tension and urgency surrounding immigration policies and enforcement practices.
