Counterterrorism officials are actively investigating a series of attacks in Scotland that left five men injured. The incidents, suspected to be anti-Muslim, commenced near a mosque in Edinburgh on Friday evening.

According to BBC News, the attacks began just before 9 p.m. when two men suffered injuries near the mosque. The suspect, identified as a 36-year-old Scottish man, allegedly attacked three more individuals in another area of the city. These men, aged between 22 and 39, did not sustain life-threatening injuries. Three victims required hospital treatment.

Counterterrorism officials are investigating after a suspect went on a rampage in Edinburgh, leaving five men injured.

The suspect reportedly attacked a vehicle at a gas station, smashing its windows and leaving an axe inside. Surveillance footage captured the individual allegedly causing destruction inside the station’s mart and attacking outside a pizzeria.

Police Scotland issued a statement confirming their rapid response to multiple fast-moving events across Edinburgh, with public safety being paramount. The suspect was detained by authorities around 9:30 p.m. local time.

Assistant Chief Constable Catriona Paton expressed concern for those affected, emphasizing that there is no room for racism or faith-based hate in Scotland. She assured the public of police support and highlighted ongoing collaboration with Counter Terrorism Policing and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.

The Muslim Council of Britain condemned the attack, describing the community’s growing unease and urging vigilance. The council connected this incident to recent racist events in Belfast and criticized political rhetoric that demonizes groups.
