Comedian Jeff Dye found himself in a feud with fellow performer Laura Kightlinger after a peculiar incident involving his Tesla. He criticized Kightlinger’s behavior as “inappropriate for a 60-year-old” woman after discovering her insult on his car.
Dye shared images from his Tesla’s security cameras on X, showing Kightlinger writing an insult on the fogged windshield. “Performed on a show with a comic I’ve never met,” Dye wrote, referring to Kightlinger. He added, “I’m assuming she didn’t know it was my Tesla she wrote ‘Douche’ on. Strange behavior for a 60-year-old adult.”
The incident quickly gained attention online, with Dye’s post amassing over 440,000 views. He highlighted the double standard he perceived, stating that had he done the same to her car, she might have reacted by discussing how women are treated differently in comedy.
Kightlinger, a writer and comedian known for her work on “Will & Grace,” and her specials on Comedy Central and HBO, responded on social media. She admitted to writing the insult as a response to Dye’s criticism of another comic and described the act as “impulsive.” She apologized, acknowledging that she should have addressed the issue directly with Dye.
Dye, known for his conservative views and Christian faith, engaged in the exchange by calling Kightlinger’s actions “childish behavior.” Despite the heated interaction, Dye clarified that his car was not damaged beyond the writing in the fog and expressed his intention to hold Kightlinger accountable for her behavior.
Christian Toto, host of the “Hollywood in Toto” podcast, commented on the situation, noting the growing partisan tensions among comedians. He observed that interactions like these highlight divisions, especially for conservative comedians who often face criticism.
Toto explained that while comedians typically handle disputes through humor and direct engagement, Kightlinger’s choice of action deviated from the norm. He compared the interaction to “trash talking on the NBA court,” suggesting that traditional boundaries in comedy were crossed.
