Chicago Bears fans experienced a tense moment on Sunday when star quarterback Caleb Williams suffered an injury late in the fourth quarter against the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears were trailing 6-3 and pushing for a go-ahead score deep in Vikings territory when Williams, attempting to evade a tackle from Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, pulled up with an injury. Although Williams dodged the tackle, his hamstring gave out, sending him to the ground.
The injury was initially ruled as non-contact, raising concerns among fans about a possible Achilles tear or another severe muscle injury. However, early reports indicated a potentially quick recovery, with updates pending results from his MRI on Monday.
Fortunately, NFL insider Tom Pelissero confirmed that Williams’ injury was not severe. Tests revealed he avoided major damage to his hamstring, and the team is not ruling out his participation in Week 3 against the Eagles on the upcoming “Monday Night Football.” This news is a significant relief for the Bears.
When Williams was injured, he displayed notable pain and required assistance off the field. His performance up to that point had been impressive, marking him as a promising young quarterback. In the season opener against the Panthers, a dominant 59-37 victory in Carolina, Williams completed 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards, achieving two touchdowns with no interceptions. He also added 65 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns to his stats.
Before his injury on Sunday, Williams showed his skill despite challenging weather conditions, completing 16 of 26 passes for 138 yards with an interception, while gaining 42 rushing yards in a tough NFC North clash against the Vikings.
The possibility of Williams not missing any game time provides a significant boost for the team. His return for the game against Philadelphia remains uncertain, but expectations are positive. After facing the Eagles, the Bears will host the Jets and then travel for games against the Packers and Falcons.
