Authorities in California are actively searching for Derek Spencer, a 44-year-old man suspected of multiple felonies, including murder and shooting at law enforcement personnel. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has labeled Spencer as armed and dangerous.
Spencer allegedly pointed a firearm at individuals in Placer County last Sunday, prompting law enforcement to initiate a search. He was located in the Iowa Hill area, where he reportedly rammed a patrol vehicle before fleeing, leading to an extensive manhunt.
The sheriff’s office cautioned residents in the Iowa Hill area to secure their homes and stay indoors. The terrain is challenging, comprising dense forests and steep, rugged areas, complicating the search efforts.
During the operation, deputies discovered a deceased female inside a home, believed to have been murdered by Spencer. Authorities suspect Spencer killed the woman before escaping into the nearby forest. Multiple law enforcement agencies are collaborating with the sheriff’s office in this case.
The sheriff’s office reported that Spencer fired at officers and helicopters but did not injure any law enforcement personnel. They are determined to continue the search overnight, aiming to apprehend the suspect.
Derek Spencer is identified as a bald man with a goatee. Law enforcement advises reporting any sightings immediately.
