The Lakers’ media day often follows familiar patterns. New uniforms, bright lights, and familiar questions. This year at the UCLA Health Training Center, one seat held more significance than others.
Bronny James is entering his third season in Los Angeles. For the first time, his father, LeBron James, will not be by his side in the locker room. LeBron departed for the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent this summer.
During a session at the Lakers’ training complex on Monday, Bronny spoke about his well-known name and identity. ClutchPoints captured the moment on X, where Bronny expressed, “You guys know me as Bronny. My real name is LeBron. I’ve been doing this for however long, so I think it’s a motivating factor for me just getting up every day and trying to prove myself as Bronny instead of LeBron.”
Journalist Jordan Richard shared a video on X from the Lakers’ initial practice of the camp. The footage highlighted Bronny’s statement at the podium. He stayed on the court longer than anyone else after practice.
The atmosphere feels different without LeBron present, and Bronny acknowledged this change. The Lakers are set to face LeBron’s new team in Los Angeles on Christmas Day. However, Bronny is concentrating on his present duties.
Last season, Bronny secured playing time, appearing in 42 games and posting an average of 2.9 points over less than nine minutes per game. He improved his three-point shooting to 38.6%, a significant increase from his first season.
Securing minutes will continue to be challenging. With Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves leading the backcourt, the team’s lineup is packed. Bronny is determined to approach the season aggressively, prepared for any role the team assigns him.
