Brenna Garrigan Shines in Volleyball at Providence

Freshman outside hitter Brenna Garrigan always intended to follow the high school footsteps of her brothers, Brayden and Blake, at Providence. Her determination solidified in eighth grade when she witnessed the Celtics’ girls volleyball team qualify for state after a win at the Class 3A Washington Supersectional. Watching the team succeed confirmed her desire to join them. As a varsity newcomer, the 5-foot-5 Garrigan has significantly impacted. Currently leading Providence in hitting, she scored seven kills to help the Celtics secure a 25-13, 25-14 victory over Andrew in Tinley Park.

Kennady Kotowski supported with six kills, and Olivia Healy contributed 20 assists. Lily Lipke recorded five aces, while Juju Batshon added four. On Andrew’s side, sophomore Lainey Pranckus made five kills, with Kodi Campbell adding three.

In addition to volleyball, Garrigan intends to play basketball and softball at Providence. Her talent is already evident. Coach Lee Rucinski commended her abilities, stating, “Having a 5-5 player who can jump over me made it easy to decide she can play in the front row.” He emphasized his commitment to playing the best athletes at the varsity level.

Garrigan’s background as a libero in club volleyball enhances her versatility. “She could have been our starting libero when she was in sixth grade,” Rucinski said. Her skills and volleyball IQ are impressive. As of now, she leads the team with a high number of kills and serve receptions and ranks second in digs and aces.

Olivia Healy, who plays with Garrigan, praised her saying, “Where do I start? She’s amazing. I know when I set her the ball, she’s going to make it count.” Healy expressed excitement for having Garrigan on the team for the next two years.

Before high school, Garrigan was pivotal for Oak Prairie, helping them secure a third-place finish in the Class 4A Illinois Elementary School Association state finals. Moving to varsity hasn’t intimidated her as she’s used to facing older opponents in club seasons.

Garrigan shares her volleyball roots with her mother, Jane, who coached a rec league team Brenna joined in kindergarten. Doctors suggest she might grow a little more, but Garrigan is ready to challenge any doubts based on her height. “I love the challenge and the adrenaline,” she shared, expressing her passion for overcoming adversity.

Providence’s Brenna Garrigan continues to excel, showing potential that promises an exciting future in sports.
