A bombing occurred at an upscale restaurant in Moscow, resulting in three deaths and over 21 injuries. The attack was denounced as a ‘brutal terrorist act’ by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Sobyanin made his statement on Sunday, following the explosion at the Balzi Rossi Italian restaurant. He mentioned the victims are receiving necessary care in city hospitals. Investigators are actively working to determine the attackers and promised they would be held accountable.

As of Sunday, Russian authorities have not identified suspects and no group has taken responsibility for the attack. The Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee stated the explosion resulted from a homemade explosive device. According to RIA Novosti, a woman carrying the bomb attempted to enter the restaurant but was stopped by a security guard. The bomb detonated, killing the woman, the security guard, and a patron. Over 21 people were injured in the incident which occurred around 8 p.m. at Kudrinskaya Square.
The restaurant was closed to the public that night for a private event. Russian state media released video footage showing armed police officers, ambulances, and emergency vehicles at the site as investigators assessed the scene.
Earlier this year, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced increased security for military and government officials due to assassination attempts following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. However, Russian authorities have not tied the restaurant bombing to those incidents or the conflict in Ukraine.
