Auchincloss Advances in Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional District Against Poulos

Rep. Jake Auchincloss successfully advanced in the Massachusetts 4th Congressional District election, overcoming challenger Jason Poulos. Auchincloss has held his seat since 2021, facing his first Democratic primary challenge since his initial victory.

Progressive challenger Poulos, an AI policy researcher, criticized Auchincloss for his previous support of military aid to Israel and his connections to AIPAC. Poulos advocated ending U.S. military aid to Israel and ran on policies such as Medicare-for-all, universal basic income, taxes on corporate automation, strengthening unions, and canceling student debt. He also aimed to reduce military spending.

Auchincloss, endorsed by AIPAC, expressed criticism of Israel’s conduct in Gaza, noting humanitarian concerns over some actions in 2025. AIPAC, a pro-Israel lobbying group, has faced criticism for promoting U.S. military aid to Israel.

In a recent vote, Auchincloss joined over 100 House Democrats to cut $3.3 billion in U.S. military financing for Israel while maintaining support for the U.S.-Israel relationship. He campaigned on reducing housing and healthcare costs, boosting economic growth, and preparing Democrats to address AI-driven economic changes.

Auchincloss, from a prominent Boston medical family, succeeded Joe Kennedy III. His previous registration as a Republican and work on former Gov. Charlie Baker’s campaign were points his opponents focused on, though he later realigned with the Democratic Party.

The election brings attention to the House Democrats’ split over the Massie Amendment and shows differing views on U.S. aid to Israel.
