Assault Allegation Against Maine Senate Candidate

Jenny Racicot has accused Graham Platner of sexual assault, leading to calls from Democrats for him to withdraw from the Maine Senate race. Racicot shared her account in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, describing the incident she claims occurred in 2021 as rape. During the alleged assault, Racicot says a violent struggle resulted in a sewing cabinet falling, causing a needle injury.

Racicot, who met Platner in 2019 through a dating app, initially found him to be intelligent and charming, though she noted he self-medicated with alcohol. On the night of the alleged assault, she recounted that Platner had texted his intention to visit, which she declined. Despite her response, she said, Platner entered her home uninvited and assaulted her while she was on her couch.

Platner, 41, denies the allegations, labeling them “categorically false” in a social media video.
