The Alabama Crimson Tide secured a 50-36 victory over the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday. While the result pleased Crimson Tide fans, the game didn’t start as expected. Florida State initially led 21-6 in the second quarter, causing some dissatisfaction among the home crowd at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama’s offense was initially lackluster, drawing boos from fans.
By game’s end, the offense had turned around, meeting expectations of a high-scoring performance. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb praised his team’s resilience but also commented on the critical fans. ‘They just didn’t have any quit,’ Grubb told reporters. ‘They’re a resilient group. I’m proud of that. We had some boo birds, but if the guys had given up as quickly as some fans, we wouldn’t have won.’
Grubb’s remarks upset some fans, leading him to issue an apology through the school’s NIL collective, Yea Alabama. ‘My passion for Alabama football runs deep,’ he said. ‘My commitment to this program is strong. I back my players always. However, I should have chosen my words more carefully.’
He praised Tuscaloosa as a special place with an incredible fanbase, expressing his gratitude. ‘I’ve been spoiled by our great fans who inspire our players,’ he added. ‘I let my loyalty to my players affect my words, offending some fans, which was not my intention. I apologize for that.’
Grubb concluded with a hopeful outlook. ‘I look forward to moving on and giving everyone something to cheer about. It’s a blessing to be here at Alabama. Again, my sincere apologies, and Roll Tide!’
While some fans saw Grubb’s statement as reconciliatory, others felt he misunderstood who they were booing. One fan commented, ‘We were booing you.’
Winning often smooths over challenges, so if Alabama excels against South Carolina this Saturday, the issue may fade. But if offensive struggles continue, fan dissatisfaction could resurface.
