Republican Governor Kay Ivey initiated special primaries in the 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 7th Congressional Districts. This action followed a significant Supreme Court decision that weakened part of the Voting Rights Act. The decision allowed the state to implement a House map previously blocked for favoring the GOP.
