Some weddings stand out for their location or guest list. For Samantha Albright and Josh Campbell, it was the presence of two important people who couldn’t attend that made the day unforgettable. Their intimate ceremony took place on a Saturday in Aurora, specifically at Chet and Judy Albright Park on Iowa Avenue. This park honors Samantha’s grandparents, whose impact on both family and community endures.
Choosing the right venue for their wedding had its options. Samantha mentioned, “We had a few places in mind.” However, thinking about who would be there and who wouldn’t made the choice clear and meaningful.
Chet Albright passed away in 2017. He grew up in Mooseheart, where he met Judy, his wife of 56 years. Chet became the first 6th Ward alderman on Aurora’s City Council. His eight years in this role were significant for the city, according to current Ald. Mike Saville, who assumed the position after Chet stepped down in 1987 to work at Mooseheart.
On the City Council, Albright played a key role in transitioning the city to a new form of government. As chair of the Plan Commission, he helped establish the economic development office, guiding Aurora’s expansion on the far East Side. This area, initially a two-lane road, connected to Route 59 after Fox Valley Mall’s construction in 1974.
Chet previously owned Northgate Barber Shop and was active in local organizations like Boys Baseball of Aurora, Batavia Moose, and the Aurora Rotary clubs. Judy worked with special needs children at Hope Wall School. Both had a reputation for their love of family and their ability to make everyone feel appreciated. Samantha noted that while her grandma was reserved, her grandpa was outgoing and remembered everyone’s faces and names.
The 26-year-old bride cherished her grandparents’ unwavering support. They never missed her school events or sports games, traveling long distances to watch her play softball. Her fondest memories include “sitting and talking” with her grandfather, practicing public speaking in the family’s four-seasons room. His stories became cherished family memories, even for Josh, her new husband, who never met Chet or Judy.
The wedding, attended by about 16 family members, featured memorable moments, especially when the couple exchanged rings. Joshua Campbell and Samantha Albright married on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Chet and Judy Albright Park. Her grandparents’ park signifying their legacy was significant. A tattoo on Samantha’s arm features wording inspired by her grandmother.
After Chet’s unexpected death from a heart attack at a Mooseheart basketball game, Judy gave Samantha their wedding bands. These rings, kept secure over the years, marked Josh and Samantha’s engagement.
Saville was thrilled to see the new couple choose to wed at the park, a space he helped create to honor Chet and Judy’s contributions. Chet’s car rides with Samantha through Aurora highlighted the city’s changes and his positive outlook on his hometown. He always spoke about Aurora with pride.
The park, named after Chet and Judy Albright in 2023, captures the essence of their dedication to Aurora. On a lovely Saturday, their pride in the community was revived. A card from Judy to her granddaughter encouraged Samantha to “enrich the lives of others as you have enriched mine.” The first part of this message is tattooed on Samantha’s forearm, prominently visible as she and Josh committed their lives to one another. Samantha maintains her grandparents were not only “the foundation of me as a person but also the foundation” of their extraordinary day.
