U.S. Response to Ebola Outbreak Sparks Criticism

The U.S. government plans to transfer American patients needing further care to European hospitals instead of U.S. facilities have raised concerns among Ebola experts. This decision follows ongoing efforts to handle the Ebola outbreak.

As of May 28, 2026, reports state that the U.S. military is setting up a field hospital in central Kenya. This facility is designated to accommodate Americans exposed to Ebola. Officials announced that the hospital will become operational Friday and will have a capacity for 50 patients.

Members of the Ebola response team from Doctors Without Borders are seen preparing protective suits and face shields outside a hospital in Mongbwalu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This preparation occurred recently as the global response efforts continue.

While setting up the field hospital in Kenya, the administration has defended its plan to avoid transporting infected Americans back to the United States for treatment. The focus remains on using available resources to address the current crisis overseas, despite facing scrutiny from some experts.
