Kimberly Guilfoyle Resigns as U.S. Ambassador to Greece Amid Allegations

The White House has requested Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, to step down from her position. This decision follows allegations regarding her conduct.

During her initial briefing as White House Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia addressed questions about reports suggesting Guilfoyle’s possible dismissal due to alleged misconduct. Zacharia stated, “We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well.”

Kimberly Guilfoyle, 57, a former partner of Donald Trump Jr. and the ex-wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom, has served as Ambassador since November 2025. Recently, she faced criticism over reports claiming she solicited money from Eric Deters, a long-standing ally of former President Trump.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Guilfoyle allegedly requested Deters to settle her significant American Express credit card bill in return for access to the administration. A message reportedly from Guilfoyle to Deters read, “Honey please I need you to get this done for me today.”

Her attorneys, David Schwartz and Jesse Binnall, refuted claims of wrongdoing. They stated that the money was compensation for services, such as speaking engagements and public appearances, conducted before her nomination. In a statement issued on October 12, they asserted that Deters owed Guilfoyle approximately $150,000 for past work.

“Ambassador Guilfoyle has served, and will continue to serve, with integrity, honor, and distinction. We are evaluating all available legal remedies to collect this debt and any other potential causes of action.”

In response to the allegations, Vice President JD Vance remarked, “These are allegations… let’s actually see what the facts are, let’s see what the truth is. And obviously if there was something bad that happened, then people have to suffer consequences for it.”

President Trump commented on Monday, indicating he is contemplating Guilfoyle’s potential dismissal. He noted: “We are not happy.”

This situation is evolving, with further updates expected.
