Inmates Sue D.C. Jail Over Smoke Incident

Five inmates, both current and former, have filed a lawsuit against the Central Detention Facility in Washington, D.C. They allege negligence on the part of the jail staff in preventing and managing fires initiated by another inmate who expressed suicidal intentions.

According to the complaint, the inmate’s actions caused panic and fear among others. The affected individuals claim they were forced to endure a dangerous situation as smoke filled their living area. Those involved argue the jail staff did not act promptly or effectively to address the crisis. They seek accountability for the distress and potential harm caused during the incident.
