A 9-year-old boy critically wounded a 13-year-old in a shooting on Chicago’s South Side Friday afternoon, according to police reports. The incident occurred inside a residence on the 5200 block of South Wells Street in the Fuller Park neighborhood.
The 9-year-old was handling a firearm when he fired a shot, hitting the 13-year-old just after 4 p.m. The older boy sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder and was taken to UChicago Medicine, where he remained in critical condition.
Authorities recovered a handgun at the scene. Area detectives are in the process of investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
