Texas Christian University Reinstates Press Credentials for Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Texas Christian University (TCU) has decided to reinstate press credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The decision follows the temporary revocation of these credentials just before the Horned Frogs began their season. The team kicked off their season in Dublin, Ireland, facing the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, led by Bill Belichick. During this time, Star-Telegram TCU reporter Steven Johnson covered the game from the stands.

The initial revocation occurred due to a report on a locker room incident that led to the dismissal of senior safety Jacob Fields. Fields has been charged with aggravated assault following this incident. The stadium where TCU plays its home games, Amon G. Carter Stadium, bears the name of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s founder and first publisher. Despite this connection, the university had initially pulled the paper’s access. However, following internal discussions, the school reversed this decision.

“Today, TCU Athletics fully restored media credentials to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. In a series of productive discussions, we made clear our position and resolved to move forward. We respect their role as an independent news source and voice in our community, and we look forward to the season ahead,” stated the athletic department.

TCU’s first game ended with a 15-10 loss against UNC in Ireland. The team is set to return to action on September 12, hosting the Grambling State Tigers.
