One person has died and several others were injured following a shooting in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday. Among the victims were two police officers, as confirmed by local officials.

The Hennepin County Medical Center identified seven patients, one of whom died. The city reported the shooting around 5:10 p.m. local time through social media, confirming police presence at the scene.

A statement from the Minneapolis Police Department detailed their response to the incident near 15 E Grant St., highlighting the involvement of multiple victims, including the officers.

Although the medical center did not provide conditions for the injured patients, aerial footage from NBC affiliate KARE showed a significant police presence. The scene included armored vehicles and SWAT-style officers. Precise details regarding the wounded and their conditions remain unclear.

A witness, speaking to KARE, described hearing gunshots while descending to the lobby of a building. She recounted, “I just left the building immediately because I knew what was happening, so I didn’t want to be involved in that.” After exiting, she heard approximately 25 to 30 shots, noting the police had entered the premises.

Footage taken by an on-ground witness displayed police vehicles with activated sirens and lights. Authorities advised people to avoid a large area of the city, including Loring Park.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz acknowledged the situation and expressed gratitude towards the police for their active efforts to ensure public safety. Additionally, he mentioned his public safety team heading to the location, stating on X, “Grateful to law enforcement actively working to ensure the safety of our neighbors in Downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. Minnesota is praying for our first responders.”

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in St. Paul confirmed its involvement in the response efforts. FBI Director Kash Patel also stated that his agency was informed and responded promptly, offering all necessary resources to assist local authorities.
