More than 180 Jewish entertainers and artists have voiced their support for actor Mark Ruffalo. This follows accusations of antisemitism against him tied to his opposition to the Warner Bros. Discovery-Paramount merger.
A letter signed by Jewish artists, writers, and faith leaders expressed frustration over what they describe as a smear campaign against Ruffalo. According to Variety, the letter emphasized, “Enough with the false and dangerous weaponization of charges of antisemitism against those who are brave enough to point out the obvious: that the assault on the Palestinian people and the assault on our liberties at home are deeply interconnected.”
The controversy began when Ruffalo shared a video of Safra Catz, an Oracle executive and Paramount board member, speaking about technology Oracle used to help Israel after the Hamas attacks on October 7. Ruffalo linked Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison to the financial backing of the proposed merger. He suggested that the merger aims to consolidate media power and hinted at its use for oppression.
The signatories, including notable figures such as Abbi Jacobson and Tony Kushner, rejected the label of antisemitism on Ruffalo’s comments. They argued that executives involved in the merger support actions against Palestinians and silence critics of these actions. They see pointing out these connections as a Jewish ethical duty.
The AI road to WarnerMount runs through Gaza, and Ellison has often let us know the Orwellian world he has in store for us as he consolidates control over what we watch and how we watch it, knowing that as we watch he and his corrupt cohort will always be watching us.
Ruffalo denied antisemitism in a statement to Fox News Digital, defending his right to criticize Israeli policies without being labeled antisemitic. Yet, he faced backlash from nearly 1,000 industry insiders who condemned him for promoting what they viewed as antisemitic stereotypes.
Elizabeth Barcohana of the California Republican Party praised industry insiders for opposing what she described as a rise in antisemitism in Hollywood. According to her, Ruffalo’s involvement as an anti-merger spokesman is odd, given his controversial statements.
The discussion surrounding Ruffalo reflects broader conversations about criticism of Israel and allegations of antisemitism in public discourse.
