Two police officers in Connecticut sustained gunshot wounds, while a suspect was killed during a car chase that escalated into an exchange of gunfire near Hartford. The incident occurred late Friday, according to local authorities.
Incident Overview
Hartford police officers were investigating potential illegal activities around 11:07 p.m. A male suspect fled the scene, prompting an officer to pursue and attempt arresting him. During the confrontation, the officer detected what seemed to be a firearm in the suspect’s waistband, indicated the Hartford police.
The suspect then entered a vehicle and drove off, leading officers on a chase through the city. Law enforcement shared vehicle information with nearby police departments.
Chase and Shootout
The pursuit concluded in Newington, south of Hartford near the Rocky Hill border. Upon exiting the vehicle, a gunfight ensued, wounding two officers and resulting in the suspect’s death. Officers identified as Hartford Police Officer Alex Diaz and Rocky Hill Police Officer Jon Escobar.
Both officers required hospitalization following the incident but were later discharged. The chase and subsequent shooting initiated a joint investigation across multiple agencies as it transitioned from Hartford to Newington.
Ongoing Investigation
A firearm was retrieved at the location of the shooting. Authorities have yet to publicly disclose the suspect’s identity or additional information concerning the illegal activity being investigated prior to the arrest attempt.
