A Santa Monica police officer fatally shot an armed individual on Saturday afternoon at Palisades Park, as confirmed by city officials. The incident occurred on the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue when officers were responding to a domestic violence call.
According to a police statement, while officers were questioning witnesses, an unrelated person, armed with a knife, charged at them. As a result, an officer discharged their firearm, hitting the individual.
After the shooting, Santa Monica Fire Department personnel provided medical assistance to the wounded person, who was then transported to a hospital. Unfortunately, the individual was pronounced dead upon arrival. The officer involved in the shooting did not sustain any injuries.
Authorities announced that the investigation remained active on Saturday afternoon. They requested the public avoid the area as investigators gathered evidence and conducted a preliminary investigation.
