Graham Rahal will be among the drivers navigating the streets of Washington, D.C., during the Freedom Grand Prix 250 on Sunday. The event marks the United States’ 250th anniversary, adding a special significance to the race.
Speaking at the IndyCar Grand Prix Media Preview, Rahal expressed his pride in participating. “As an American, this is an iconic moment,” Rahal stated. He highlighted the international aspect of the sport but emphasized the unique opportunity to race in the U.S. capital, near landmarks such as Capitol Hill and Pennsylvania Avenue. Growing up, these places held great significance for him. The opportunity to race here, with the nation’s colors on the car, is meaningful to Rahal.
Rahal admitted to feeling eager to hit the track. “We’re excited. Can’t wait to see the track,” he said. Although he has seen parts of the course, he’s looking forward to racing and competing for the trophy.
The activities begin Saturday with a practice session at 9 a.m. ET, followed by another at 1 p.m. ET, and qualifying at 5 p.m. ET. These events will broadcast on FS1 and FS2. The race track runs down Pennsylvania Avenue for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, emphasizing the event’s historic context as it coincides with America’s 250th anniversary.
On race day, Sunday, drivers will warm up at 9 a.m. ET, with the race commencing at 1 p.m. ET. Both the warm-up and the race will be televised, with the warm-up on FS1 and the main event on FOX.
