An Ohio couple faced charges after allegedly entering a cruise ship cabin and assaulting a family, including a 9-year-old child, following a noise complaint. Gannon Jacox, aged 29, and his partner Brooklyn Hicks, aged 28, were detained after the cruise ship returned to Port Canaveral, Florida, officials confirmed.
According to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Jacox and Hicks engaged in a loud argument after drinking, prompting a request for quiet from another passenger. Hicks is said to have confronted the passenger while Jacox recorded the exchange and encouraged Hicks to attack.
Brooklyn Hicks was charged with burglary with battery and battery-touch/strike.
The couple allegedly forced their way into the cabin where the family, including the child, was present. Sheriff Ivey noted that Jacox struck all three victims, while Hicks threw punches indiscriminately. The altercation led to charges against Jacox for burglary with battery and child abuse without great bodily harm. Hicks faced charges of burglary with battery and battery-touch/strike.
Ivey mentioned that Jacox incurred an eye injury, presumably during the confrontation. The sheriff reported no severe injuries to the victims.
The ship involved in the incident remains unidentified. Four ships, including Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas, Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Treasure, and Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras and Carnival Freedom, were scheduled to dock at the port. The exact ship remains unconfirmed.
Sheriff Ivey emphasized the risks of excessive drinking and public disturbance, warning passengers to conduct themselves responsibly. He advised, if you can’t hold your liquor, then you definitely shouldn’t be out in public causing a scene like this and injuring random people including a child!
