The upcoming special election in November will determine who will fill the Senate seat previously held by Marco Rubio. Rubio vacated the seat when he assumed the role of Secretary of State.
The current holder of this seat, Sen. Ashley Moody, a Republican from Florida, was temporarily appointed to this position following Rubio’s departure. Moody, formerly the state’s attorney general, is now seeking her party’s nomination to continue serving the remainder of Rubio’s term, which extends through 2028.
If nominated, Moody will face competition from the Democratic side. Potential Democratic candidates include state Rep. Angie Nixon and retired Lt. Col. Alex Vindman. Vindman gained prominence due to his significant involvement in President Donald Trump’s first impeachment proceedings.
