ChatGPT, along with other AI assistants, attracts billions of users globally. However, understanding the precise ways these tools are deployed has been challenging. Existing data on user interactions is limited and scattered.
To address this gap, researchers have introduced the AI Observatory. This resource aims to evaluate AI usage by studying anonymized conversations sourced from seven distinct channels. The initiative seeks to provide a clearer picture of how individuals interact with AI systems, focusing on identifying non-work-related usage, which has been found to make up about half of the conversations.
