Verizon customers across the United States have reported widespread service disruptions. As of 1:10 p.m. ET, over 2,400 outage reports have been logged by Downdetector. This platform tracks service outages based on status reports submitted by users. The rise in complaints began mid-morning.
Verizon, through its subsidiary Verizon Wireless, provides mobile, landline, and broadband services nationwide. The company has yet to comment on the cause of the current outages, and the duration of the disruptions remains unknown.
Impact on Verizon Services
Most users experiencing the outage have reported issues with mobile phone service. There are also reports indicating disruptions to 5G Home Internet and mobile internet services. A heat map on Downdetector shows clusters of issues in major cities such as Albuquerque, Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.
Analysis of Google Trends data at 1:30 p.m. ET reveals that New Mexico saw a surge in searches for “Verizon,” indicating a significant impact in this area.
Resolution of the Outage
Updates on the resolution of the outage are not yet available. Verizon has explained that mobile network outages can occur when a disruption affects multiple cell sites simultaneously, which interrupts voice, data, and messaging services in the impacted regions. Customers may receive a Network Notification upon signing in to My Verizon. This notification provides information on which services are affected and updates on repair progress.
Verizon does not offer a universal timeline for service restoration. The duration of an outage depends on the cause, the number of cell sites affected, and the speed of the repair process. Customers are advised to check the network status page for real-time updates. If the page does not acknowledge an outage, but service is still compromised, users should try troubleshooting steps such as restarting their device, verifying coverage, and ensuring Airplane Mode is deactivated.
During an outage, Verizon recommends connecting to Wi-Fi and enabling Wi-Fi Calling to access voice and data services. Devices will automatically reconnect to the network when service resumes, although a device restart may help establish a new signal.
Customers losing service for more than 24 consecutive hours due to a Verizon-confirmed outage may request a bill credit within 180 days if they are on standard monthly plans.
This situation is developing, and updates will be provided as available.
