The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority plans to adjust fares for both rail and bus services. This change comes alongside a proposal to offer free fares to youths throughout the D.C. region.
Current rail fare prices start at $2.25 and can reach up to $6.75 based on the trip’s distance. Bus rides follow a flat rate of $2.25, although express buses have higher costs.
If this proposal gains approval, the updated fare structure is set to launch in July. This move aims to balance fare structures and potentially provide more accessible travel options for younger passengers.
