A Kansas man contacted 911 on Tuesday to confess to killing his entire family, including his four children and wife, before committing suicide as police arrived at their residence in Winfield.
Police Chief Robbie DeLong reported that the initial officer on the scene heard a lone gunshot while approaching the house and then retreated. Law enforcement established a perimeter as it was unclear if an active shooter remained.
Approximately two hours after the 911 call, authorities entered the home near 9th Avenue and Stewart Street. Inside, they discovered six deceased individuals, indicating a murder-suicide scenario.
The alleged shooter, Ronald H. Williams Sr., 53, was identified as the person who made the emergency call. The victims include Kelly L. George, 44, Carol A. Williams, 9, Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7, Sarah K. Williams, 5, and Kelly M. Magee-Williams, 3.
Williams Sr. had an extensive criminal history in Kansas and was on the list of registered sex offenders since June 1997, as reported by KWCH 12 News. He faced numerous felony charges from 1995 to 2024 in various eastern Kansas counties. His offenses ranged from drug-related crimes to battery, assault on law enforcement, attempted rape, and kidnapping.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, along with the Winfield Police Department, is currently investigating this tragic event.
