Former President Joe Biden’s battle with prostate cancer has become more severe, as the disease has spread to other parts of his body. This revelation came from his son, Hunter Biden, in an interview with the BBC that aired on Friday.
“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden explained. “It’s very painful and very debilitating in many respects.” Despite the challenging situation, Hunter noted the resilience in his father, wishing he would express discomfort more openly.
In spite of the severe health issues, Hunter mentioned that Joe Biden continues to participate in speaking engagements, embodying persistence amid adversity.
Joe Biden, alongside his son Hunter, attended the Easter Egg Roll on the White House’s South Lawn on April 1, 2024. He was initially diagnosed with the disease in May 2025, having been identified with Stage 4 prostate cancer. The Gleason score of 9 indicated a highly aggressive form of cancer, suggesting that Biden may have lived with it for years.
Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel, the vice provost and oncologist at the University of Pennsylvania, asserted that Biden probably had the condition since beginning his presidency in 2021, and not developing it recently.
In June, Jill Biden, Joe Biden’s wife, appeared on ABC’s “The View,” where she discussed the impact of cancer on his life. She acknowledged that while he maintains his schedule, the combination of cancer and medications has slowed him down, especially given his age of 83.
Joe Biden remains active, attending a fundraising event at the Columbia Museum of Art in South Carolina on February 27, 2026. The persistence with which he carries forward despite his health challenges is noted by family and close observers.
