A homeowner in Scotland resolved a puzzling mystery after weeks of missing milk deliveries, only to find an unexpected culprit. Gordon Campbell, 42, residing near Glasgow, discovered that a young fox had been taking the bottles from his doorstep, according to SWNS.
Campbell decided to install a security camera when milk deliveries continued to vanish. The footage revealed a fox grabbing a glass bottle and making off with it. Campbell initially suspected a human thief and joked about a ‘militant vegan’ being responsible.
“I didn’t really know exactly who would be doing it,” Campbell said.
Initially, Campbell blamed magpies, considering their intelligence, but realized they wouldn’t have the strength to carry away a bottle. His determination to catch the thief led him to set up a decoy, placing a spare milk bottle outside and positioning a camera discreetly.
The plan succeeded on July 20 at 2:30 a.m. when the fox took the bait. Campbell found the sight of the fox amusing despite the inconvenience, remarking on its ‘big ears and wee face.’
Due to the repeated thefts, Campbell had stopped his milk deliveries, opting instead for grocery store purchases. Now, knowing the identity of the thief, he is considering resuming deliveries with a protective box to secure the bottles.
Interestingly, this is not the first fox sighting around Campbell’s home. Months earlier, his cat, Bruce, had chased off another fox trying to enter through the cat door.
