Cardboard Boats Regatta at Oak Park

Oak Park recently hosted a memorable event during Mythical Creatures Week, offering an array of engaging activities. A cardboard boat regatta took center stage, challenging participants to engineer vessels capable of traversing Rehm Pool. This event was part of a series of activities organized by the Park District of Oak Park.

In addition to the regatta, attendees enjoyed arts and crafts at the Dole Center, creating pieces like fairies, muppets, and mermaid collages. At Austin Gardens, families made plaster casts of various animal and Bigfoot tracks. Pleasant Home featured a family event, and Scoville Park became a playground for mythical creatures and curious characters. The Oak Park Conservatory provided educational sessions on plants and creatures.

38th Annual Darien Fest

Darien Fest returns for its 38th year at Hinsdale South High School from August 7 to 9. Opening ceremonies are set for August 7, featuring the Veterans of Foreign Wars and performances by the school’s marching band and cheerleaders. Ocean’s Rat Pack will entertain from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., with carnival games and rides running from 6 to 10 p.m.

August 8 offers a day full of activities, including carnival games and rides from 1 to 10 p.m., a business expo from 1 to 5 p.m., and bingo with Cancer Smashers from 2 to 4 p.m. Various bands will perform, including Hinsdale School of Rock, Whiskey Road, and Heartache Tonight. On August 9, the fun continues with rides and games, another business expo, and performances by My Dance Hula and bands like Blind Reality and Grand Illusion. Food Pantry Support by Immanuel Lutheran Church

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillside is offering a drive-through grocery giveaway for families in need. Scheduled distribution days are August 9, September 12, and October 10.
