President Donald Trump has expressed support for Nordone, encouraging her to run in the approaching special Republican primary. His endorsement, delivered via a Truth Social post, came shortly after South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed Graham Nordone to fill the seat left vacant following her brother Sen. Lindsey Graham’s sudden passing.
Trump praised Nordone, describing her as a spectacular individual and committed patriot. Highlighting her family’s legacy, he emphasized her potential to honor her brother Lindsey’s memory through public service.
“Darline is a remarkable person, deeply committed to our country and South Carolina,” Trump stated. “I’ve urged her to run in the special Republican primary on August 11, 2026. Her candidacy would be a tribute to Lindsey’s legacy,”
Nordone’s appointment marks historic milestones as the first female senator from South Carolina and the first sister to be appointed to the Senate. Although her conversations regarding a full-term campaign are private, there are indications of her interest.
The special primary is set for August 11, with the filing period opening from July 21 to July 28. Per reports, several politicians, including Reps. Russell Fry, Nancy Mace, Ralph Norman, and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, are considering entering the race.
Graham Nordone’s swearing-in ceremony took place shortly after her appointment by Governor McMaster. She will fulfill the remainder of her brother’s term until the new Congress convenes in January.
