US Men’s National Team Faces Key Test Against Belgium Without Balogun

The United States Men’s National Team recently achieved a significant triumph against Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, they face a challenge in their upcoming match with Belgium due to the absence of star striker Folarin Balogun. He received a controversial red card during the second half of the previous game, leading to a one-match suspension.

FIFA confirmed on Friday that the suspension is limited to one match, which is the best scenario for the U.S. team. There was initial concern about potential additional game suspensions, but FIFA has decided against it.

The red card incident was a pivotal moment in the U.S. victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. Balogun expressed his views on the situation, stating, “It’s important for me to say, first and foremost, it was totally unintentional. The choice of the referee was his choice. I don’t think it was the correct choice. I think a yellow card would’ve been fair, due to it not being intentional.” Despite his perspective, he acknowledged the incident and aimed to move forward.

Balogun, who leads the team with three goals in the tournament, will not participate in Monday’s match against Belgium in Seattle. His absence is a setback for the team. Nevertheless, if the U.S. can overcome the Belgians, Balogun’s return will boost their prospects in the quarterfinals.
