Trump Reviews Construction Projects and Discusses D.C. Political Landscape

President Donald Trump inspected various construction projects in the Washington, D.C. area. He highlighted the potential for the East Potomac Golf Links to host major golf tournaments. Trump shared on social media that the redeveloped course might accommodate events like The U.S. Open and The Ryder Cup.

Trump visited the site with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, aides, and the golf course architect Tom Fazio and his son, Gavin Fazio. The redevelopment faces a lawsuit in U.S. District Court, and it’s uncertain when the course might host such tournaments, as locations are selected well in advance. The U.S. Open is scheduled through 2051, with openings in 2043, 2046, and 2048. The PGA Championship locations are planned through 2035.

Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of the golf course, mentioning issues with the grass and sprinkler system. Additionally, he noted debris from the demolition of the White House East Wing was found on the grounds. The National Park Service reported that the debris contained lead, chromium, and other toxic metals.

Work on the golf course is set to begin on September 1. Trump also reviewed updates to Lafayette Park and drove through areas planned for a triumphal arch.

In political news, Trump commented on Janeese Lewis George, who won the Democratic primary for Washington’s mayor. He referred to her as a “Communist.” Lewis George emphasized her willingness to collaborate with various parties, including the president, in D.C. residents’ best interest. However, she clarified she would not concede to requests from the administration that might undermine local governance.
