President Trump Opens Great American State Fair Celebrating U.S. 250th Anniversary

President Donald Trump inaugurated the Great American State Fair on Wednesday by emphasizing the country’s achievements during his leadership. He compared his political movement to the American Revolution while speaking on the National Mall. “Like the patriots of 1776, over the last 17 months, we have reclaimed power from the distant political elite,” Trump stated to an audience gathered for the opening ceremony. “They wish to regain it, but that will not happen. We have recaptured our sovereignty, restored our liberty, and renewed our prosperity. We are once again putting America first.”

Trump’s entrance was marked by Lee Greenwood performing “God Bless the U.S.A.” as part of the festivities marking the country’s 250th anniversary. His remarks followed military flyovers, which included B-2 bombers and F-35 stealth jets, and addresses from Trump Cabinet members alongside the U.S. Marine Band’s performances.

“America is back,” Trump declared to a cheering crowd. He claimed, “We’re the hottest country in the world. Everyone respects us now. No one’s laughing at us anymore.” During the event, attendees held American flag posters as the fair commenced on the National Mall on June 24, 2026. The celebration runs until July 10.

In his speech, Trump lauded improvements in the nation’s capital. He highlighted the removal of homeless encampments, cleanup of graffiti, and the refurbishment of over 50 monuments. He mentioned repairs at Union Station, Meridian Hill Park, Lafayette Square, and the Reflecting Pool, which he said had been “vandalized.” “Most vandals have been caught and are prosecuted. We cannot allow our country to be treated this way,” Trump stated.

Trump previewed projects connected to the anniversary. These include a new White House ballroom, a “triumphal arc” near Arlington Cemetery, the National Garden of American Heroes in West Potomac Park, and a “Spirit of ’76” exhibition at Freedom Plaza honoring figures from the American Revolution.

Trump described the 250th birthday as both a celebration of America’s founding and a foundation for a new era of prosperity. “This anniversary is a moment to feel pride in our past,” he said. “But it’s also a time to aim higher and broaden our ambitions. The best is yet to come.” Joining him were House Speaker Mike Johnson, several Cabinet officials, and members of Congress. Trump referred to the event as “a very special night.”

Trump announced that the fair would feature all 50 states and six U.S. territories, including military flyovers, patriotic music, technological showcases, exhibitions, a FIFA fan zone, and a traditional rodeo. An archway stands across from a 110-foot “Freedom 250” Ferris wheel, finalized on June 22, 2026.

“You get a glimpse of it tonight,” Trump remarked post-flyovers. “How amazing is our Air Force?” He also spoke of a large Fourth of July celebration on the National Mall, promising to return and address attendees as the country welcomes its 250th year with what he called “the largest fireworks display in world history.” Additional activities include the Patriot Games, featuring top high school athletes, and a Freedom 250 Grand Prix around the Capitol and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Trump concluded by reflecting on America’s history, citing the Founding Fathers, Patrick Henry, the Revolutionary War, westward expansion, and the construction of railroads and skyscrapers, as well as involvement in two world wars and the space race. “This is our heritage, our history, and America’s destiny to be the most exceptional country on earth,” Trump detailed. “We are one people, one nation, moving towards a magnificent future under our great American flag.”

“Happy birthday, America,” he added.
