New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler demonstrated his prowess both on the baseball field and online, delivering an impressive performance against the Cincinnati Reds and responding to a persistent Red Sox fan. Schlittler struck out a career-high 13 batters in six scoreless innings during the Yankees’ 5-0 victory at Yankee Stadium.
Schlittler, hailing from Walpole, Massachusetts, encountered this fan’s criticism back during the AL Wild Card Game last October. Despite quieting the Red Sox with 12 strikeouts in eight shutout innings, the fan’s taunts persisted. Following his recent game, Schlittler shared a screen recording of these insults on Instagram, captioning it “Rent Free” with laughing emojis.
The fan, identified by the Instagram handle “Kyle_Lynch11,” labeled Schlittler a clown and continued with verbal jabs from October through April, even mocking Schlittler’s outfits using vomit emojis. Schlittler finally replied, “Stop glazing lil bro,” when confronted. Although the fan predicted a poor outing against the Reds, Schlittler’s performance contradicted this, as he boasts a league-leading ERA of 1.71. His record stands at 8-3, with 109 strikeouts over 95 innings, credited to his effective pitching style.
While Lynch’s remarks didn’t reach the severity of threats that Schlittler and his family have received from Red Sox supporters, they still highlighted the ongoing rivalry. Schlittler’s response reflects his ability to focus on the game and dismiss distractions, showcasing his talent both on the mound and handling social media confrontations.
