Authorities in South Carolina have identified a body found earlier this week as that of Elena Moore, who disappeared on June 11. The 39-year-old’s cause and manner of death are still under investigation. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office announced that an autopsy is set for Saturday, with further details expected on Monday.
Moore’s body was discovered Wednesday afternoon near a gym in Lexington, a city approximately 23,000 residents west of Columbia. She had been last seen leaving this gym on June 11. Police Chief Terrence Green stated that a preliminary match to Moore was made based on her clothing description, aided by a tip following news coverage of the case.
Green did not address whether there is any suspicion of foul play in Moore’s disappearance. The investigation is being led by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. As of Friday night, a spokesperson for the department had not provided a comment.
