Team USA Inspires with Winning Streak and Faith

Jesse Bradley, former soccer player and chaplain for Seattle Sounders, discusses the U.S. Men’s National Team’s (USMNT) impressive start at the 2026 World Cup. The team has won its first two group stage matches for the first time since 1930. Bradley highlights how the team’s open display of faith has sparked Bible studies and prayer sessions after games, fostering unity among Americans through soccer.

Recently, a friendly match in St. Paul, Minnesota, saw the USMNT defeat Canada 1-0, adding another victory to their record during the international break. Despite the absence of Christian Pulisic, who is recovering from an injury sustained during the World Cup, the team performed admirably.

Justin Ellis, a 19-year-old from Florida who plays for Orlando City SC in Major League Soccer, scored the decisive goal. He was called up by USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino for friendlies against Peru, Chile, and Mexico, before facing Canada. Ellis’ eligibility to represent Uruguay through his mother adds an intriguing layer to his story. His goal against Canada followed an initial score during his debut against Peru, marking him as a rising talent.

Before the match with Canada, the USMNT defeated Peru 4-1, Chile 4-2, and Mexico 3-0. Players are returning to their clubs worldwide, benefiting from the progress under Pochettino’s leadership.

This triumph over Canada is the latest in a string of U.S. victories against their northern neighbors in various sports. Earlier successes include gold medals in men’s and women’s ice hockey at the Winter Olympics, and a 5-3 win in the group stage of the World Baseball Classic following their Olympic success.
