Jackson Lahmeyer Suspends Campaign Amid Controversy

Republican Jackson Lahmeyer has decided to suspend his campaign for Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District. This decision follows a controversial situation involving alleged text messages that emerged shortly before the Republican primary.

Lahmeyer, who is a pastor from the Tulsa area and a former U.S. Senate candidate, announced his decision on Wednesday through a statement on social media platform X. He mentioned that he reached this decision after a careful consideration with his wife, Kendra, and his campaign team. He stated, “I do not want to be a distraction to my family, my church, and the great people of Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District.”

Former President Donald Trump withdrew his endorsement of Lahmeyer on the same day. Trump appreciated Lahmeyer’s efforts under challenging circumstances and expressed his support for him, saying, “He has always been with me, and I will always be with him.”

Lahmeyer addressed the allegations, describing the reporting as a ‘distorted’ account, and said the matter was dealt with privately between him and his wife.

The controversy began when the Daily Mail published alleged messages between Lahmeyer and a former Miss Oklahoma USA. This report gained national attention and threatened to overshadow the closing days of Lahmeyer’s campaign. Lahmeyer responded by acknowledging that he had crossed a boundary through text messaging and stated that he had ended all communication.

He described the British tabloid’s portrayal of him as inaccurate and posed questions about the motives behind the report, suggesting that the communications were selectively chosen to paint a misleading picture.

Trump initially endorsed Lahmeyer in early May, calling him a ‘MAGA Warrior.’ Following the suspension, Trump now backs State Representative Mark Tedford. Lahmeyer and Tedford both advanced to a runoff election, with Lahmeyer earning 25.9 percent of the vote.

With Lahmeyer stepping out of the race, the contest for Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District proceeds without one of its notable candidates. The situation is evolving and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
